  • the elevator is a sanctuary

    ————-

    Bear

    Here’s a mugshot.  A real troublemaker (and charmer).  I don’t imagine she’ll grow more than 50 pounds heavy.  Love the dark-rimmed eyes and I’m thinking of renaming her Tammy Faye.  She’s a fun dog.

    Shoot.  Weekend was a blast.  Congrats to Soojin and Peter!

    White Towels
    (Richard Jones)*

    I have been studying the difference
    between solitude and loneliness,
    telling the story of my life
    to the clean white towels taken warm from the dryer,
    I carry them through the house
    as though they were my children
    asleep in my arms.

    * Jones’ poems appear in recent anthologies (Poets of the New Century, Poetry in Motion, and his own collection, The Blessing: New and Selected Poems).

    This Day This World
    (Stanley Kunitz)+

    My architects, forsaking me,
    Submit designs for a bombproof mansion;
    My scholars of the fourth dimension
    Complain they starve to death in three;
    My correspondents write all day
    The business of the enemy.

    Tapped of their useful energies,
    My soldiers pace the mind’s frontier;
    Engine recoils from engineer
    And strikes at the courage in his eyes.
    When shall my swarthy workmen rise,
    Demand the power and the keys?

    + Kunitz was Poet Laureate of the US, 2000-2001.  A recent recipient of the National Medal of the Arts.  He’s a favorite, striking a balance between outward simplicity and inward mystery.

  • Ahh the new dog is so adorable!! You said she won’t grow more than 50 pounds? Geez, that’s a big dog… And here I am thinking my cat is huge because he’s 9 lbs. (-_-); If she gets to 50 lbs, I bet she could knock me over. Even though I eat everything in sight, I’m still a measly 94 lbs.. *shakes head* your dog could eat me for breakfast lol.

  • Is she a German Shepherd?  That’s it, when I move to SF I’m getting myself a dog; I don’t care if he has to be put on Prozac due to long hours he must spend by himself.
    I approve–I like BIG dogs.  The bigger the better.

  • hello, i’m a complete stranger but i really like your site, especially the poems. hopeyou don’t mind that i subscribed. peace.

  • Beautiful dog! I can’t imagine this world without the cuddlenss and playfulness of little friends as dogs. (Bailey is so fun!)
    So, I have a question. Are you the type to pick an object, ex: soda can, catholic nun, hair clip, and just quickly write a peom about it? Do you think that fast? Are you so impromptu?
    Any interesting lessons learned lately?
    Have a nice day.

  • haha.. i think some people just don’t talk no matter how many subjects you can bring up.. or they could just be mute..

  • Oh I love dogs!  Very cute.
    Thank you for visiting my journal.  I’m actually writing a book on it, so that’s why it has a chapter heading.  I just started.  I decided to go ahead and use real bands when I mention music in my book (which will be a lot).  Living Sacrifice is a Christian hardcore style band.  They tie into one of the themes of the book because the band actually is breaking up, so I used them to help foreshadow some bad stuff that’s gonna happen to my main character at the show.  Well, I hope you stop by the site again.  I’ll have the next part of chapter one up within the next couple weeks.  Thanks again for visiting.  God bless!!

  • hip hop thug life homie g … tore it up on that dance floor.    wootwoot!
